The Handmaid's Tale
“I keep the knowledge of this name like something hidden, some treasure I’ll come back to dig up, one day.” – Margaret Atwood
This cover is part of my #12covers1year challenge, where I create a new book cover every month in a different genre. May’s theme was Dystopian, and I chose a novel that stayed with me long after I first read it. I went back and forth with this cover but eventually decided on a more minimalist approach with bold typography. I drew the title myself to learn the ins and outs of serif lettering. I used it to cover the handmaid’s face to capture the feeling of being silenced and controlled — a big part of what the story is about.
